Description

The purpose of this group is to teach information about the special education process and advocacy skills, provide members with support and help when working with their school district, and understand the elements of an effective IEP.

The Wrightslaw advocacy book will be studied closely chapter to chapter. Additional resources will be shared with group members that attend meetings such as: where to find information and guidance on how to individualize your child's IEP goals, what should be in present levels (of academic and functional performance), where to get advice regarding 504 issues such as bullying and harassment and much more.

Organizer was trained by the 'Parent Educator Partnership' workshop-an Illinois State Board of Education organization to help other parents. Also acted as a volunteer advocate for parents with gifted and/or disabled (twice-exceptional) children when evaluating placement options for their children.
