Brain and Executive Functioning Skills Training
What is executive functioning? EFS are comprised of a set of cognitive processing skills that allow us to plan, organize, and manage ourselves. Essentially, it’s the process of how we learn. These skills work together for learning to be enjoyable and easy. Inefficiency in even one area can cause learning to become very difficult. No amount of effort or strategies will make up for the difference. Learning activities (reading, writing, math, comprehension, homework), and task completion will be compromised. The brain relies on cognitive processing skills to function in all areas of life.
Why Are EFS & Cognitive Processing Skills Mandatory to Learn?
EFS and cognitive processing abilities separate the good learners from the so-so learners, according to a study from Oxford Learning. It’s an unconscious process that happens quickly and automatically. Just like the heartbeats and our digestive system processes food, it happens without any effort on our part. Strong cognitive processing skills make learning easier, faster, and more efficient. When cognitive processing skills are weak, learning is difficult, slow, and challenging. Cognitive processing skills are not fixed. They can be developed and improved!
Why Brain Training?
“The potential for brain training as a new therapeutic tool is phenomenal,” says Amit Etkin, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. “By understanding brain circuitry, we can tailor interventions that medication or psychotherapy do not access or improve. The great advantage is that these programs are not invasive, have minimal side effects, and are, for the most part, fun.”
How Is It Done?
Brain training is a process of fun and challenging mental exercises to develop the underlying foundations of learning. Exercises consist of a series of sequenced steps. Skills are broken down in the areas of long- and short-term memory, active working memory, attention, processing speed, auditory processing, visual processing, sensory integration, logic, reasoning, organization, and time management. As each level is mastered, the next becomes harder with various changes and modifications.
What Are the Results of Brain Training?
Easier and Faster Learning
Performance is increased in academics (grades and homework completion), transitions, verbal and written expression, life skills, behavior, motivation, attitude, and social-emotional learning. You or your child will also develop an increased ability to work independently and experience a greater level of success at school, home, work, and relationships. Once cognitive processing skills are remediated, tutoring may no longer be necessary. If tutoring is needed to catch up to peers, it will be much more effective and for a shorter period of time to reach age-appropriate academic levels.
Closing the Gap
Brain training programs close the learning gap, paving the way to reaching one’s true potential and abilities. It’s time to close the gap. It’s time to train the brain!

Executive Functioning
We have been working with Linda for a few months now. I say "we" because Linda has become an invaluable resource for both my teenager with executive functioning challenges and for me, a mom supporting him. Linda is full of incredibly helpful ideas and products that have improved my son's brain function, accountability, and productivity at home and at school. Her upbeat personality and flexible nature make her a pleasure to work with. We are in it for the long haul and I can't imagine working with anyone else.
