Thomas E. Brown, Ph.D. Brown ADHD Clinic
Thomas E. Brown is a clinical psychologist who earned his Ph.D. from Yale University. He served on the clinical faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine for 20 years while also operating a clinic for children and adults with ADHD and related problems.
In 2017 Dr. Brown relocated to California and opened the Brown Clinic for Attention and Related Disorders in Manhattan Beach where he currently sees patients.
Dr. Brown is a skilled, empathic teacher/clinician. His 28-minute video “What is ADHD? Attention Deficit Disorder Explained” on YouTube has received rave reviews and more than 2 million views. He taught continuing medical education courses on ADHD for the American Psychiatric Association for twenty years and has given lectures and workshops in hospitals, medical schools, universities and for professional and advocacy groups throughout the U.S. and in more than 40 other countries.
He served for several years as Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California and is an elected Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Child and Adolescent Psychology.
Dr. Brown developed the Brown Executive Function/Attention Rating Scales (1996, 2019) and has published 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His award-winning book, Attention Deficit Disorders: The Unfocused Mind in Children and Adults (Yale University Press, 2005) has been published in seven languages.
He has published 30 articles in professional journals and 6 books on ADHD. His most recent books are Smart but Stuck: Emotions in Teens and Adults with ADHD (Jossey-Bass/Wiley,2014) and Outside the Box: Rethinking ADD/ADHD in Children and Adults: A Practical Guide (American Psychiatric Publishing, 2017).
