KEGE assholes
This is a clinic with board certified medical practitioners who treat only patients with ADHD.
1) They do not treat people older than 55.
2) I found out after I tried to enter my age on the website and emailed the receptionist for help. She responded with a previously composed generic email claiming they do not have the “skills” to treat 55+ people. It was not clear what “skills” they were referring to, and I can only guess from other parts of the email, it was regarding stimulants.
3) The generic email referred me to an addiction recovery clinic and a general neurology facility that isn't exclusively for ADHD. Maybe I’m in denial, but I usually forget to take my stimulant.
4) After consulting with the MDs in my family and asking other mental health experts, no one thought it justified to exclude anyone at that age without at least a consult, assessment of health, e.g. records of a physical exam, blood work, blood pressure, etc. I received no such requests. When I was studying medicine, we were taught, “Age is not a disease.” This emphasizes the necessity to assess the biological not chronological age. Otherwise, how do you know a 54 year old is healthier than a 56 year old?
5) What on earth are the skills they lack if all they do is ADHD diagnosis and management? I believe they have psychiatrists too…If that’s the case, it seems logical the vast majority of clinics should deny anyone in that age group.
6) What if the new patient is stable, healthy, up to date on routine exams and blood work, and is on a maintenance dose of medication, none of which are stimulants?
Do they accept patients who are just shy of 55 and then shuffle them off somewhere else as soon as they reach that age?
7) I found one study in the journal “Psychiatry” that gives a guideline how to treat and monitor 55+ patients STARTING on stimulants. It is extremely easy to understand and use as a guideline.

7)My doctors tell me all the time how I am healthier than people 10-20 years my junior. It was torture to be healthy, before I was diagnosed at 55, and have never been denied being seen by a clinic of my choice. As a result, I have had days of RSD, ruminating, anger, and the same old feeling that I’m flawed and can’t fit in. I came to the hypothesis ( my theory only ), that something bad happened there, perhaps a lawsuit. Isn’t that what insurance is for? I could be wrong.
In the end, somebody wins, and the people who are mentally most vulnerable end up losing again.
